Races I want to do....

Ok, here is one race I want to do in this lifetime... Bay to Breakers Race in San Francisco...love those costumes! I think I might need to be a superhero some day. Loved that 60s TV show, I dream of Jeannie, the pack of running Jeannies are just great!

Wanna' get high?

Hehe!

Seriously, this article at nytimes.com is on the concept of a "runner's high" and how it isn't just a story runners tell the rest of us to make us feel bad! (hehe again!)

Eating at work-smart choices from NYT

In the career blog there is a series by a nutritionist about healthy food for work.

This post, the third in the series, is about what kind of healthy food to stash in your desk drawer for those desperate times.

Sydney, Australia, "That Ecstatic American Group"

Hey,
I just figured out how to embed video in the blog so here goes...
2007 World Championships, 500m Finals, Premier Open—Here is a video of that very exciting race where the premier men's team pulled up from last place to win the 500m race and set a new world record in 1:48:74

I love djsteveboy!

Why you ask? Because he created Podrunner and Podrunner intervals, that's why!

As anyone who has finished a race to the Rocky theme knows-music is a powerful motivator. If you are like me, music helps you keep moving when you want to stop.

djsteveboy's site has two sets of download-able mixes. He just started a new Podrunner interval mix set, First day to 5K, which incorporates interval training and takes 9 weeks from no running to a 5k race. For those of you just starting to use running for cardio it would be great but it could work with any cardio training. Each workout is around 30 minutes.

For those interested in longer mixes for your workout there is the original Podrunner where each mix lasts about an hour and ranges from a consistent 130-180 beats per minute depending on the mix.

I like these because they have a consistent beat. I can use a slower beat for walking, medium for running and a high rate for the elliptical trainer. Since each one is about an hour I can go for as long or as short as I want.

Have fun with djsteveboy, my new bff!

Senator Obama meets Roxanne

Roxanne made history yesterday! She will get us all the details but she had the opportunity, after spending the day with Senator Obama, to invite him to meet the SDs and take a scenic tour of the Schuylkill River in our dragon boat. Here she is with Senator Obama and a friend.

Indoor Erg Regatta 2008

The SDs were represented by paddlers: Judy Gernon, Peggy Kovich, Sue Weinand, Barbara Mattioli, Linda Avila, Julie Regnier and Joann Fegley (coach, fill-in paddler...calm, cool and collected, she gives us strength!), Paula Humphries, who is now President of ERBDA and was patiently handing out hundreds of medals, and Paul Reichert, our super supporter and photographer.

In support of other local teams...

If anyone is interested in supporting the GSK team, there is a fundraising (yes even they have to raise money) spaghetti dinner on April 6th from 4-8PM.  This is Robin's team and a wonderful and fun group of people!

Mistressing the pullup and a yoga thing..

On that note, here is a link, especially for women, how to work toward those ever-elusive pullups...

and just a kind-a cool site with quickie yoga exercises demonstrated on short videos...

Can you push up? Science says it's important!

This is an interesting post on the NYTimes blog, Well, on the push-up and how it reflects fitness levels.

There's a movie too!

Picture from Washington, DC race, 2007

Hey everyone!
Found this happy group among Roxanne's photos from the May 2007 race and wanted to post it here.
